Southbury Leisure Centre NOP’s
Opening Procedures- This outlines the process for opening the facility. It can contain what needs to be done by a specific person at a certain time. The opening procedures can also contain the information regarding what time the facility needs to be unlocked and the order.
Closing Procedures- Identical to opening procedures, there are also clear techniques for closing a facility at the end of the day. These can consist of locking-up procedures to guarantee the building is protected and no one is inside it, counting the money made that day and recording daily funds made, making sure that any calls to the facility are automatically forwarded to voicemail and checking alarms have been set.
Checks required at Facility- Regular checks should be carried out in the facility. This is because a certain standard of quality, health and safety throughout the facility has to be maintained, otherwise it may cause harm to customers or users. Different roles within the hierarchical structure of the facility, will be held accountable for certain areas of the facility. For example, it may be a gym instructors job to ensure that all equipment is ready and in good enough condition for use.
Facility Risk Assessment- Risk assessments are taken in all parts of sports and leisure facilities to keep workers and customers safe. The main purpose of risk assessments is to detect any possible hazards. Once these have been noticed, the risk needs to be evaluated with the potential level of injury it could cause. The employee responsible for evaluation a risk assessment will decide what actions need to be taken to rectify or reduce the chance of the risk.
Health and Safety- Every sport and leisure facility is obligated by the law to have a health and safety plan. In the NOP, there should be clear guidelines for the safe preparation of job-related responsibilities. For example, the safe organising and placing down of equipment. Employees, especially ones that work in the gym should be conscious of their responsibilities for health and safety, and firms, owners and bosses should deliver training.
Method for Reporting Injuries- The NOP will consist of processes for reporting injuries. For example, if the facility is a sports centre, there should be a designated and qualified first aider. There should also be an accident book where all first aid incidents are logged and appropriately supplied first aid kits.
Safety Procedures at facility- There must be strong direction of safety actions and etiquettes in the NOP.
This will include procedures for:
- First
Aid
- Health
and Safety
- Swimming
Pool rescue
- Checking

Southbury Leisure Centre EOP’s
Procedures for Fire- In the occurrence of a fire, there needs to be a clear escape method.
All staff should know:
- What
the alarm sounds like
- Where
the emergency exits are
- Where
the assembly points are (Meeting areas)
- Where
different fire extinguishers are located
The guidance in the EOP should include the procedure used to ensure and check the facility has been properly emptied of both employees and customers. There should also be a specific procedure for entering the building again.
Procedures for Major First Aid Incidents- Major first Aid incidents are usually life threatening events.
The EOP should contain:
- Who
the first aiders are
- Clear
instructions for first aiders
- What
the duty rota is for the first aiders
- How
to get in contact wit a first aider
Procedures for evacuation- Emergency Operating Procedures should also go over Emergency Evacuations. These procedures are most likely related to the fire evacuation procedure. An example of when an evacuation will be necessary is if there was a chemical spillage or leak, e.g. Chlorine used for the pool. There will need to be clear guidelines for all staff, if this incident was to occur.
Procedures for Contacting emergency services- The EOP should specify who is responsible for making contact with emergency services e.g. a fire occurring (Knowing who should call the fire brigade).
Procedures for recording and reporting theft or vandalism- There should be clear strategies and instruction for recording and reporting theft or vandalism by the EOP.
This will consist of:
- Who
is accountable for taking specifics and finalizing paper work
- Who
should make contact with the police
